Bryan Hauger Consulting selected to present at the Polyolefins Conference 2015
I am looking forward to spending some time in Houston this month and making my presentation titled “Recent Trends in Polyolefin Pipe Technology and Markets” as part of the session titled “Polyolefins in Durable Applications”. The presentation starts at 230 PM on February 24th but I'd really enjoy touching base with any of my friends from the Houston area during the conference. I hope you will decide to attend this important annual conference.

Home Composting Standard Currently in Balloting at D20.96
This project was started in 2012 to assist users interested in home composting of plastic packaging materials including state and municipal governments, food packaging producers, retailers and consumers. Current balloting of ASTM WK35342 is open on a fully developed and mature thirteen page standard specification. Interested parties including the public are encouraged to join Subcommittee D20.96 on Environmentally Degradable Plastics and Biobased Products and participate in the standards development process. Invista Relocates Manufacturing of Raptor Nylon Pipe
As a consultant in plastic piping, it has been fascinating to watch the standards development process for Invista’s nylon 6,6 Raptor pipe for oil and gas production as a window into their market focus. The premise that one can understand market trends in plastic piping by observing standards activity in ASTM F17 is the thesis of my presentation at the Polyolefins Conference Houston during the session titled Polyolefins in Durable Applications. Unfortunately, polyamide piping would not be an appropriate topic for a conference on polyolefins. A number of proposed standards were balloted that were squarely focused on gas distribution and gas transmission applications under the jurisdiction of subcommittee F17.60. However, a proposed standard was also balloted focused on oil and gas production applications under the jurisdiction of subcommittee ASTM F17.68. Use of PA66 based materials in energy production will provide all of the beneficial attributes of plastic pipe including corrosion resistance, coiling for space efficient shipping, and butt fusion joining. This avoids some of the more complex aspects of spoolable composite pipe, end-fixturing, as detailed in the API15S standard. However, the multiple parallel standards moving forward at the same time suggested the type of dedicated market focus that might support additional production capacity which has now been announced. More information on the Invista manufacturing relocation can be found at the following website;
