Today the organizing committee for the Plastic Pipes and Fittings Special Interest Group announced the dates for ANTEC® 2015. Deadlines associated with the paper submission process were also announced.
This year, ANTEC® will be co-located with NPE 2015 in Orlando, Florida on March 23 - 27th. Paper submission must be completed by September 26th. As the Co-chair of the Technical Program Committee, I encourage everyone with a topic of interest to those in the plastic pipe and fittings community to bring us a paper and enjoy the benefits of presenting at ANTEC®. Please send me an email or give me a phone call if you have any questions regarding the Plastic Pipe and Fittings SIG.

Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July this Year
Every year, I am torn between two different sets of emotions on the 4th of July. I feel pride and happiness at the anniversary of the founding of this great country and the signing of our Declaration of Independence. I also feel concern and regret regarding the number of accidents and injuries that will result from consumer access to fireworks and their use by children. I think that acknowledging the potential hazards of consumer fireworks doesn’t make me less patriotic. My training in chemistry emphasized giving highly reactive chemicals the respect they deserve.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission provides an Annual Fireworks report that underlines the concerns. The 2012 report is titled “Fireworks-Related Deaths, Emergency Department-Treated Injuries, and Enforcement Activities During 2012” and is available online
The National Fire Protection Association coordinates a group of health and safety organizations called “The Alliance to Stop Consumer Fireworks” that urges the public to enjoy firework displays created by trained professionals while avoiding the use of consumer fireworks. More information on the Alliance can be found at

I wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July!
