Begin with the (polymer) end in mind, says ORNL
Begin with the (polymer) end in mind, says ORNL
One of Stephen Covey’s fabled 7 habits has been linked to a recent study by researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The ORNL team concluded that “the most direct path to plastic upcycling is through designing polymers specifically for reuse.” In other words, careful development can lead to virgin polymers which can later be converted into so-called high-value materials, thus significantly decreasing the environmental impact of plastic production and consumption. These high-value materials may include liquid fuels, syngas, carbon nanomaterials, and basic monomers. The team’s review of recent advances and future challenges in plastic waste technologies, published in Chemical Engineering Journal, can be found here.

PP Filaments for 3D printing now available in bright colors
PP Filaments for 3D printing now available in bright colors
Gone are the days in which high-quality 3D printed items could only be manufactured in some shade of white or grey. Braskem has expanded their offerings of 3D polypropylene (PP) filaments by adding black, green, neon yellow, and neon pink to their collection. The bright colors have high visibility, making the new line of products (FL105PP) ideal for safety and construction applications. These products continue to demonstrate the advantageous properties of the previous line - they are lightweight, and resistant to water and physical impact, as well as chemically inert. Find out where you can purchase these new PP filaments here.

CDPHE invites companies to join NextCycle
CDPHE invites companies to join NextCycle
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) launched a business-based recycling initiative, called NextCycle Colorado, for a third year. The program is designed to “boost remanufacturing solutions for recycled or recovered content in Colorado,” according to a news release from the agency. Businesses who are accepted into the NextCycle Colorado program will receive necessary planning and consulting support, with the goal to help them advance their end-market ideas for recycled materials. Participating companies are also eligible to apply for further CDPHE grant funding. Since its initial launch in 2018, five companies were awarded grants from the Recycling Resource Economic Opportunity program, for projects ranging from regional supply chains for composite plastics, to production of cross-laminated timber. Applications are being accepted through January 7, 2022. Learn more about NextCycle Colorado here.
