HDPE Materials Get Heavy Hit from Tariffs
With numerous HDPE materials on their way to China, a 25% tariff came as a shock to many HDPE manufacturers in August of 2018. This tariff further influenced the industry trade war and caused a short term shipping panic. HDPE producers and buyers around the globe are attempting to adjust as many shipments were already dispatched before the tariff was imposed. This change impacted the global trade flow in the long term, however, short term redirects occurred to avoid losing profit for numerous companies.

Plastic Pipe Highlights from AHR Expo
There were numerous companies to take note of during the 2019 AC, heating, and refrigeration expo. Most of which were pipe centered, such as Aquatherm’s new McElroy fusion machine that was creating joints on large diameter PP-R pipes on site. Poloplast was also showcasing their eco friendly and cost effective PP-R plumbing and mechanical system setups. Victaulic showed off their new grooved pipe systems which are only made for Schedules 40 and 80 CPVC and PVC pipe with installation ready couplings. Overall, it was a great show with fantastic new innovations from some of the industries top players.

National Pipe and Plastics Plans to Build New HQ on Top of 95 Year Old Factory
In June of 2018, National Pipe, an HDPE pipe manufacturer, purchased a 95 year old factory property with plans to demolish it and build their new headquarters in its place. The factory was originally a shoe manufacturer and was purchased for $100,000. National Pipe ranks 18th in pipe, profile, and extrusion companies with estimated sales of $220 million. They are hoping that this expansion will help them maintain strength in their company and, as a bonus, help clean up and improve the surrounding area.
