PPI Warns of Substandard HDPE Pipe
PPI Warns of Substandard HDPE Pipe
With the shear demand for HDPE pipe to be installed for gas lines, sewage, water and so on, some companies are cutting corners when it comes to standards and testing. Some substandard pipe has been discovered in New Mexico and Texas which creates concern. None of these pipes are able to be identified - their original manufaturer cannot be found and their resin treatments are unknown. PPI warns to know your resin and know your company before you begin installing HDPE pipelines or pipework. IF these pipelines are jeopardized, the safety and surrounding environment could be heavily impacted and take time to recover. Although it does cost more to go through these processes, it is certainly a better safe than sorry scenario. If you've run into some HDPE pipe failures, we'd love to be of assistance in determining the true cause. Feel free to contact us here.

Some injuries have been reported as smoke inhalation but others suffered severe blast injuries. Columbia Gas is still working on the issue along with local authorities.

On September 7th, Uponor Infra Oy was acquired by Wynnchurch Capital LLC. The purchase price? $47.4 million. The deal included various HDPE manufacturing plants. Jyri Luomakoski, CEO of Uponor, felt that the acquirement was logical. The two companies feel that their skills and contacts compliment each other. Wynnchurch now has a new 150 employees to work with and an extra $90.9 million per year from Uponor. Hopefully this action will benefit the industry even more!

Ocean Cleanup's System 001 Shows Hope for the Environment
Good news everyone! The Ocean Cleanup launched their full size system titled "system 001". This is essentially the big brother version of their prototype named "Wilson" which we wrote about last month. System 001 is nearly 2,000 feet long and was towed out to sea earlier this month on a mission to clean up the ocean. Fun fact, all materials used to make this system are also recyclable. This incredibly strong HDPE pipe features a polyester based skirt that will scoop up the floating plastic pollution. At this moment, the system is being tested 240 miles away from San Francisco Bay. After it comes back and everything checks out, a larger operation will be taken on with 60 new systems aimed at cleaning up the giant ocean garbage patch. The Ocean Cleanup is getting ever closer to their ultimate goal of cleaning 90% of the ocean plastic by 2040.
