Workers Injured During Air Test of Gas Main
Several were taken to area hospitals following this incident this morning near Bayonne New Jersey. PSE&G confirmed that a contractor working for them was installing and testing a new gas main when the incident occurred. However, the line was pressurized with air at the time and police stated there was "no danger of any gas leak".

Expansion of Federal Regulatory Authority for Gas Pipeline Inspection into More Rural Areas Proposed
This article from West Virginia takes note of a new Department of Transportation proposal that was outlined last week to extend inspection and repair requirements to more rural areas and for older pipelines. The article notes the possibility that an explosion near Sissonville, West Virginia, in December 2012 might have been prevented if the current proposal had been in place at the time. This expansion of federal oversight would include approximately 70,000 miles of gathering lines that bring fuels to storage areas or transmission systems. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded at the time that the Sissonville explosion occurred due to corrosive wall loss making the 1967 pipeline walls too thin. This rural pipeline had not been inspected since 1988 but would fall under the new proposed rules for inspection.

Concerns expressed about gas line dig-ins and cross- bores in California
The memories of San Bruno certainly color this story. A new state law has been proposed for California, The Dig Safe Act of 2016, to ensure that gas line tracking occurs for all accidents and investigation is conducted by an independent body. "Every six minutes nationwide, an underground utility line is damaged during a digging project. Striking a single utility line can lead to injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient service outages,” PG&E spokeswoman Brandi Merlo said. “When you breech a gas line with subsurface directional boring, the gas is trapped by the soil," McDonald said. "Now you have gas which is leaking trapped underground which is going to travel towards people’s homes and buildings, it’s extremely dangerous.”

Bryan Hauger Consulting Completes Second Year of Operations
I am deeply thankful to all our clients – both new clients who have recently made the decision to trust our firm with their business as well as the clients who have been with us since 2014. Our second year included many highlights and one major setback. Early this year, we said our final good-bye to our associate Hing Chan. The sense of loss was renewed when I recently attended the Polyolefins Conference in Houston to give my presentation titled “Strain Hardening Modulus and Natural Draw Ratio for Polyethylene Pressure Piping Applications". Several of the people I met with during that conference mentioned fond memories of Hing. I am looking forward to the plastic pipe and fittings SIG session at ANTEC in May. I believe our Tuesday afternoon session will be well attended and we will announce the best paper award winner at the close of the session. Later this year, I will attend ASTM F17 in April continuing in my role as the chair of ASTM F17.61 on plastic water piping systems. My wide ranging interests include plastic piping system durability analysis and forensic inspection, durability of plastics, polyolefin piping expanding to include polybutylene and polypropylene, joining methods for plastic pipe, spoolable composite piping, ASTM standards consulting, and intellectual property consulting. For 2016, I am focused on adding new associates, growing my expert witness work, creating new clients at natural gas utilities and enhancing opportunities for my associate, Abraham Murra. It is deeply gratifying that the daily hard work of meeting client needs for confidential consulting continues to generate new project interest. Thank you again to all my clients for their trust and allowing our company to make our motto "Our Only Product is a Satisfied Client" a reality.
